I’m following up guest DJ Osaro’s mix from our last issue with another helping of Jayne Casey: Pink Industry’s dreamy post-punk “Don’t Let Go” and Casey again on vocals for G Love’s house track “You Keep The Love”. Big Joanie also feature with an enchantingly melancholy cover of Solange’s Cranes in the Sky.
Machine’s 1979 “There But For The Grace of God Go I” is a testament to how bold and meaningful disco can be. Billie Holiday’s ‘Strange Fruit’ requires ceremony and setting which I personally cannot provide in a disco mix. Instead, I close with Soft Cell’s heart-melting tribute to the power, allure and legend of Billie the torch singer, with their extended version.
