Joanna Kirk’s Flowers Of The Future: heroic vulnerability

Joanna Kirk has been painting ‘Flowers Of The Future’ during lockdown in the UK. “It was not just the coronavirus crisis that propelled me into them,” she says, “but also a personal feeling of unease about the future beforehand.”

Blakeian, sensuous and otherworldly, she created this series especially for this Retreat & Rebirth issue of The Demented Goddess. “Each one is individual,” she says, “and psychologically charged with feeling relating to that theme.”

“I plan to execute some very large pieces based on these drawings – vast colourful pastel paintings. I want them to be heroic in their vulnerability.”
