Big Boys Don’t Cry DJ Mix by Caoimhe Lavelle

“Boogie Then Cry” from Mystery Girls is my mission-statement for this mix. Who ARE the Mystery Girls? A glamrock punk band which briefly included pre-Dead or Alive Pete Burns and pre-Teardrop Explodes Julian Cope. Be ready to dance with tears in your eyes as this month’s potion is bittersweetly pickled with boys’ tears.
Omni-genre composer Haruomi Hosono adopts a slinky and gothic vibe with “Lunar Gloom”. A hi-NRG remix of Marc Almond’s “Tears Run Rings” by Justin Strauss and Prince’s “When Doves Cry” provide dance catharsis before The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry”, the definite anthem on the subject, opens up the floodgates.
